Lanakila Baptist School

“Lanakila stands undaunted, as a citadel of grace, In the midst of fear and chaos, peace surrounds this place.”

Non-Discrimination Statement

Lanakila Baptist School admits students and hires staff of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally made available to students and staff at the school and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administering its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs. (Prov. 28:21; Gal. 3:28; Rom. 15:7)

Lanakila Baptist School believes that an individual’s first responsibility is to the God of the Bible and that a person’s whole life should reflect His framework in a context of peace and selfless love. LBS asserts that a genuine love for and interaction with diverse peoples is a biblical mandate. Moreover, Lanakila Baptist School recognizes that we are all one in the body of Christ. Our standard for diversity is found in the Bible. Individual differences in lifestyle that deny, ignore or reject biblical standards represent diversity in rebellion to God’s standards and hence, are unacceptable for the families of LBS. LBS holds to the beliefs as stated in the King James Version of the Bible and asserts that marriage is the union between one man and one woman, and that from the beginning of the creation God made humans in two distinct sexes, male and female.

About Us

“Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society…We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”  Martin Luther King

Lanakila Baptist School (LBS), a ministry of Lanakila Baptist Church is a K3-12 college preparatory Christian school. For fifty (50) years we seek to glorify God by partnering with families, churches and the local community in educating future generations through Christ-centered academics, training, application, and example.

Our History

LBS was founded in 1969 under the direction of Robert K. Knutson as a ministry of Lanakila Baptist Church.  It is our conviction that a Christian education is paramount in training children to flourish in this modern age.  Education that presents only humanism does a disservice to children. Education has become a battleground.  Humanistic ideas and philosophy that permeate public schools is the root of the problem.  Education that excludes God, His Word and His Authority strips away absolute moral values and an honorable work ethic.  The Bible warns us, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Col. 2:8 KJV

For 50 years, it continues to be our desire to provide a safe and nurturing environment where young people can excel academically, grow in respect of God, His Word, and the community that they live in. Each year, over 50 percent of our student body are participating members of the National Honor Society or National Junior Honor Society and our seniors maintain a 100% graduation rate with ALL graduates accepted to at least two colleges with academic scholarships.

LBS has two campuses on the island of Oahu.  The elementary campus, located at 94-1250 Waipahu Street in the town of Waipahu and the junior and senior high campus, located at 91-1219 Renton Road in the historic town of Ewa Beach.

Mission & Vision

LBS’s mission & vision is to have students come to the realization of their need for the saving grace of Jesus Christ, mature in their faith, demonstrate Christian character, develop their God-given talents and be academically and intellectually prepared to engage the world in the 21st century and thereby impact generations for the glory of God.

Philosophy of Education

Lanakila Baptist School’s philosophy of education is based upon the Word of God. The primary objective and purpose of the institution is to provide a distinctively Christian learning program for students in kindergarten, elementary, and high school to train them in the knowledge of God and impart Christian character development and subject matter in harmony with Scripture.

Since the primary reason for the existence of Lanakila Baptist School is a spiritual ministry, Bible instruction includes efforts to bring all students to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ so that the teaching of spiritual truths may have a firm foundation. This is followed by instruction in right thinking, good conduct, and clean living in the light of the principles of God’s Word, which is “profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” 2 Tim. 3:16–17.

The traditional approach to Lanakila Baptist School’s academic program provides students with the best possible program of studies. We emphasize the mastery of the fundamental blocks of material necessary for satisfactory achievement and stress the acquisition of facts and concepts in the various areas of study, which leads to the development and exercise of the powers of critical thinking skills. This traditional system of education encourages competition and teaches the value of living under a free enterprise system of government.

Effective, proven methods of teaching are utilized with a constant search for improved quality and refinement. Realizing the difference in innate ability, we encourage and expect each student to do his or her best. We believe the traditional system of education educates the mind, builds character, and teaches the value of living in harmony with “whatsoever things are true, …honest, …just, …pure, [and] …lovely” Phil. 4:8.

Character training is an important element at Lanakila Baptist School. We believe that the heart of character training is deciding to do right, which will eventually cultivate an inner self-discipline, and is essential to the emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being of the student. Through Christian education, the student is brought to “unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” Eph. 4:13.

We believe this philosophy of education equips a Lanakila Baptist School student to be an effective witness for Christ and prepares him or her academically to manifest the fruit of the Spirit in daily life.

Statement of Faith

We Believe …

  • That the Holy Scriptures were given by inspiration of God, that they are complete and without error or omission, to be accepted and interpreted literally, except in those places where the context clearly indicates otherwise.  Further, for reasons of unity and consistency, we use the King James Version in our church and school classrooms.
  • In one God, eternally existing and manifesting Himself to mankind as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • That the Genesis account of creation is to be understood and interpreted as literal truth, that God created this world and all its inhabitants (species) in six, 24-hour days.  We further reject all preconceptions, assumptions and speculations belonging to the theory of “macro” evolution or any of its diverse variants.
  • That the Lord Jesus Christ pre-existed His birth in Bethlehem, was begotten of the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin lived throughout His life without sin, was sacrificed on a cross as the substitutionary blood-atonement for all and rose again physical from the dead to offer eternal life to all  men and women who will receive His gift of salvation.
  • In the free gift of salvation offered to all, yet inasmuch as man has been endowed by His creator with a free will, he may choose to accept or reject that salvation.  We further believe that once a person has accepted God’s gift of salvation, he or she is from that moment eternally secure, hidden in and kept by Christ, never to be lost.
  • That Jesus Christ ascended back to heaven following His resurrection, where He now acts as the believer’s Mediator and Advocate.  We further believe in the imminent return of Christ for the purposes of gathering His believers off the earth at the Rapture, after which He will return physically to rule and reign as King of kings from Jerusalem.
  • That the Hebrew nation of Israel still retains an essential and integral part in the prophetic promises and program of God’s Word.  That America will be blessed by God in direct proportion to its understanding and acceptance of Israel’s special place in the heart of God.
  • In the present regenerative and intercessory activities of the Holy Spirit in behalf of those who accept the salvation of god through Christ.  That He bestows ministerial gifts upon believers in order that they may better serve the ministries of Christ’s church body.  We further assert that we will not subscribe to nor all the promotion of those commonly associated with the modern Charismatic movement’s abuse of God’s precious spiritual gifts.
  • That the local church exists, in all of its various ministries, to draw sinners to and point a lost mankind to Jesus.  This church functions with Christ as its head and its leaders chosen by the local body of believers.  Further, by New Testament command, practices two ordinances ordained by Christ, water baptism by immersion in obedience to Jesus and the memorial observances of the Lord’s Supper.
  • That an individual’s first responsibility is to the God of the Bible and that a person’s whole life should reflect His framework in a context of peace and selfless love. LBS asserts that a genuine love for and interaction with diverse peoples is a biblical mandate. Moreover, we recognize that we are all one in the body of Christ. Our standard for diversity is found in the Bible. Individual differences in lifestyle that deny, ignore or reject biblical standards represent diversity in rebellion to God’s standards and hence, are unacceptable for the families of LBS.
  • We hold to the beliefs as stated in the King James Version of the Bible and asserts that marriage is the union between one man and one woman, and that from the beginning of the creation God made humans in two distinct sexes, male and female. (Genesis 2:24, 1 Corinthians 5:11; 6:9; 6:18-20; 7:1-3; 7:8-9)

Lanakila Baptist Schools is a ministry of the Lanakila Baptist Church, as such, its faculty & staff must also be Baptists or of like faith, active in both attendance and ministry participation.
